My work explores the layered experience of being a queer British Punjabi through subverting traditional craft processes & using them to tell contemporary narratives. I come from a family of tailors that used their hands and relied on their craft to make a living, this connection to process and material is something that I carry into my art making through drawing, ceramics and printmaking.
Drawing is my personal meditation, a space to manifest queer utopias and work through my thoughts. My ceramic work – ornate goblets, bowls and inscence holders – explore themes of ritual and self-honouring. Currently I am exploring traditional Indian woodblock printing, creating bandanas with hidden messages, a subtle nod to queer signalling and community.
My practice is a celebration of brown queer joy, a reflection on belonging, and an ongoing dialogue between where I come from and who I am.
